Alexandra Flood

The lyric coloratura holds a Master of Opera from the Munich Music University. Recent highlights include her debut with the Opéra national de Paris Académie in The Rape of Lucretia, performances at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, her debut in The Marriage of Figaro at Teatro Réal in Madrid, the lead role in Poulenc’s La voix humaine with Opera Queensland and her recital debut at the Sydney Opera House with Konstantin Shamray. In the 2022/2023 season, Alexandra joined the Vienna Volksoper as a principal guest artist performing roles such as Musetta, Gretel, Pamina and Anna Reich, and this season will take on her first Queen of the Night. Alexandra has performed as a soloist at the Salzburg Festival, Gärtnerplatz Staatstheater Munich, Bregenz Landestheater, Krakow Opera, Dutch National Opera’s Opera Forward Festival, Opéra de Dijon, the Richard Strauss Festival, Victorian Opera and Pacific Opera in Sydney, with the Munich and Polish Radio, the Moravian, Bochum, Rossini, National, Adelaide and Queensland Symphony Orchestras, and the Vienna and St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestras. An avid new music artist, Alexandra has performed several world premieres including M. Eggert’s Caliban and M. Artac’s Vrouwenstemmen, as well as the German premieres of Tobias and the Angel by Jonathan Dove and Songs and Sonnets to Ophelia by J. Heggie. Alexandra performed Soprano II in Wolfgang Rihm’s Klangbeschreibung II at the Hannover Klangbrücken Festival and in 2021 debuted Soprano I in Luigi Nono’s Quando stanno morendo and Io, frammento di prometeo with the Südwestrundfunk Experimentalstudio at the Wiener Konzerthaus and in Freiburg. As a Art Song performer, Alexandra was the inaugural Australian recipient of the Stern Fellowship at SongFest in Los Angeles where she performed the US premiere of Karl Weigl’s Ein Stelldichein. At the Richard Strauss Competition in 2015 and 2017, Alexandra was twice awarded the Förderpreis for her interpretation of Strauss Lieder, leading to engagements at the Richard Strauss Festival. In 2020 Alexandra was nominated for best interpretation of German Art Song in the finals of the International Debut Competition and in 2022 was one of 12 finalists selected worldwide for the Art Song Division of the International Montreal Music Competition, accompanied by Alex Raineri. Alexandra won the Schubert Prize at the 2019 Grange Festival International Singing Competition, including an artist residency and recital in England. Last year Alexandra toured Hugo Wolf's Italianisches Liederbuch to Paris, Munich and Brisbane. Further recitals include at the Hidalgo Festival in Munich, Northern Lights Festival in Norway, Song Fest in Los Angeles, and Wolf Trap Opera in Virginia. Most recently, Alexandra was awarded 3rd place in prestigious 2023 Das Lied competition at the Heidelberger Frühling, and 2nd place at the 2023 International Haydn Competition for Classical Aria and Lied in Austria. Alexandra is Artistic Director of the Queensland Art Song Festival, which took place for the first time in July 2023.
