Dr. Gregory Lee

Gregory Lee recently joined the violin section in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.   For the past 16 years, he was Professor of Violin at the University of Oklahoma and Concertmaster of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Lee has performed with the Oklahoma Chamber Players, Holmberg String Quartet and the Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble in Oklahoma City.  

The Sydney-born violinist is an alumnus of The Juilliard School, where he studied under the tutelage of Dorothy DeLay and Naoko Tanaka. Subsequently, he earned his master's and doctorate degrees at the University of Michigan under the guidance of Paul Kantor. Lee's success in competitions includes the Special Jury Commendation Award at the Michael Hill International Violin Competition and being the winner of the Geelong Advertiser Instrumental Competition.

During his time in Los Angeles, he played with the Pacific Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, Los Angeles Opera and has recorded for many Hollywood motion pictures scores at 20th Century Fox, Sony, Warner Bros, Paramount and Capital Records.

From 2004-2007, he taught at Tunghai University and National Taiwan Normal University. He performed numerous recitals around Taiwan, earning invitations as a competition adjudicator.

He has given recitals and masterclasses at numerous institutions in the US, including the University of Michigan, University of North Texas, Arizona State University, etc. In Asia, he has performed, and guest taught at Renmin University, Beijing Central Conservatory, Shanghai Conservatory and Vietnam National Academy of Music. In 2019, he was one of the judges for the inaugural Vietnam International Violin and Chamber Music Competition. Many of Lee's former students have not only gained admission to major conservatories across the US but have also flourished as successful musicians.

Lee has lectured at conferences for the American String Teachers Association, Oklahoma Music Teachers Association and Oklahoma Violin Symposium. In 2023, he was invited to give a pre-collegiate masterclass at ASTA National Conference.

During his summers, Lee has dedicated his time to teaching and performing at music festivals, including the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, OU Summer Music Academy, Vietnam Connection Music Festival, and Wyoming Seminary Performing Arts Institute.
