Dušan Walkowicz has been a permanent member of Queensland Symphony Orchestra's Bass section since 1996.
Dušan began to play the Double Bass in his native Czech Republic where he completed his Performance Diploma at the Conservatorium in Ostrava.
After he moved to Australia, Dušan continued tuition at Sydney Conservatorium with Max McBride and Kees Boersma. Later he was accepted to the prestigious Music Academy in Vienna and studied with prof. Josef Niederhammer and Herbert Mayr (Principal Double Bass - Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra). As a student he took part in a number of masterclasses and had private lessons in North America and Europe. Dušan also performed at international music festivals in Israel and Japan under the direction of conductors including Lorin Maazel, Michael Tilson Thomas, Neeme Järvi and Christoph Eschenbach.
After his return to Australia, Dušan successfully auditioned for a position with Queensland Symphony Orchestra where he was subsequently appointed as the Associate Principal Double Bass. He has worked as a guest with all the Australian professional orchestras including the Sydney Symphony, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Opera Australia Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony, West Australian Symphony, Brandenburg Orchestra and Australian World Orchestra.
Dušan regularly participates in chamber music and has a passion for education. He is a member of the teaching faculty at the Queensland Conservatorium and has also given tutorials at The University of Queensland, Queensland Youth Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra, Australian National Academy of Music and Australian Chamber Orchestra Academy.
Dušan loves traveling and skiing.
