Ingrid Martin

Ingrid Martin transforms lives through music. Her life-long mission: to make classical music relevant, interesting and engaging for everyone. On the podium, she empowers musicians to uncover and share their unique artistic voices. The result? Deeply human performances that unite musicians and audiences. Dedicated to uplifting underrepresented voices, Ingrid shares her unique programming through her roles as Artistic Director of the Crosswinds Ensemble, Australia’s only professional wind dectet, and as interim Lecturer in Wind Conducting at the University of Melbourne. 

A fervent champion of new music, Ingrid has commissioned 16 works by Australian composers including today’s world premiere of Nurture for orchestra by Edward Fairlie. She has also led Australian premieres, including today’s Concerto Grosso for Saxophone Quartet & Orchestra by American composer William Bolcom. As one of ten international participants in the Orchestra of the Americas 2022 Carlos Miguel Prieto Conducting Fellowship, Ingrid worked with mentors including Simone Young, Barbara Hannigan, Marin Alsop, Leonard Slatkin, Alexander Shelley and Carlos Miguel Prieto. 

In 2023-24 she is participating in masterclasses with all the Australian professional orchestras as one of five fellows of the Australian Conducting Academy. In one day in 2022 she both made her debut with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and premiered her interactive original show “Conducting An Experiment” Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, for the Beaker Street Science Festival! 2023 sees Ingrid return to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (next week!), and makes her debut with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Passionate about providing exceptional professional development to teachers, Ingrid shares her unique approach to musical leadership through Conducting Artistry, her online learning platform for conductor development. In December 2022 she launched her first book “Planning Effective Rehearsals: Tools to Boost Learning & Engagement”, which is already being used as a textbook in universities across the USA.
